Foot Mercato (via GFFN) report that Zinedine Zidane is Paris Saint-Germain’s priority target to replace Mauricio Pochettino as head coach in the summer.
Pochettino is reportedly set to leave the club in the upcoming window, and PSG hope to replace him with Zidane.
They’re offering him a salary even larger than his €12m net annual wage at Real Madrid.
The problem is that Zidane isn’t a fan of PSG sporting director Leonardo. Instead, he’s keen to work with Arsene Wenger.
Wenger would reportedly be interested in working with Zidane too and may consider finally joining PSG after many approaches in the past.
PSG made Wenger various offers whilst he was still manager at Arsenal, and the former Gunners boss recently explained why he didn’t follow those offers up.
“Because I had a contract,” Wenger responded. “I was raised to keep my word and respect the contracts I sign. You can’t ask your players for loyalty if you don’t have any yourself.”
Wenger no longer has that contract with Arsenal. He’s working with FIFA, so he’s not entirely free. But given he no longer has a club commitment, perhaps PSG would have more success recruiting him this time around.
