Martin Ødegaard could finally be about to kick off his Real Madrid after a breakthrough campaign at Real Sociedad.

The Norwegian signed for Madrid way back in January 2015, just after turning 16.

After two years with the club’s ‘B team’ Real Madrid Castilla, the creative midfielder had loan spells with Dutch clubs Heerenveen and Vitesse Arnhem before making his mark on LaLiga with Real Sociedad last season.

His loan with La Real was originally agreed for two years but that is set to be cut short after he impressed at the Anoeta.

Ødegaard netted four times and assisted six in LaLiga in 2019/20, helping Real Sociedad to a sixth-place finish.

Now, according to AS, Zidane wants him back.

The report claims the Real Madrid boss rates the Norwegian highly and is determined not to wait another year to use him. Ødegaard was said to be happy to spend one more season on loan, but Zidane’s request for him to return has changed things.

With James Rodríguez and Gareth Bale out of favour, Ødegaard may just be ready to make the step up and inject some much-needed creativity into this Madrid side.
