Zinedine Zidane has been left ‘on the brink’ at Real Madrid and could walk out of the club for the second time in just over 12 months.
That’s according to El Pais journalist Diego Torres – a man with close links to both Real Madrid and Zidane himself.
Torres claims that Zidane has been left exasperated by Madrid’s failure to land Paul Pogba this summer and has made his feelings known to president Florentino Pérez.
The French tactician is said to be angry with his boss for what he perceives to be a betrayal of trust having promised to land Pogba. The embarrassing failures to sell Gareth Bale and James Rodríguez only adds to the dismay.
Zidane does not believe that his squad is good enough to challenge this coming season and will now have to reintegrate both wantaway stars.
Speaking to The Independent, Torres said: “Not signing Pogba has pushed Zidane to the brink of resigning.”
Zidane was persuaded to come back to Santiago Bernabéu earlier this year, with the guarantee that he would have almost total control over signings and the look of the squad.
That’s not been quite how it’s panned out, though, and the former midfielder is willing to walk and follow his principles.
