Zinedine Zidane has explained the reason behind his emotional reaction at full-time of Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Granada.
The Frenchman let out a dramatic shout of relief as the final whistle was blown following a win which leaves Real just one win from being crowned champions.
Los Blancos will win a 34th LaLiga title if they beat Villarreal or Barcelona lose to Osasuna on Thursday.
Zidane opened up over his reaction following the crucial victory in his post-match press conference.
“I shouted because I was happy and because you suffer in football.
“It was normal to shout because they were three very important points.
“I shouted to tell my players that they’d have an impressive game. I’m happy for them.”
Goals from Ferland Mendy and Karim Benzema gave Real a 2-0 lead after 16 minutes however they had to hang on for the majority of the second half after Darwin Machís pulled one back for the hosts.
“The second half wasn’t as good but that’s because our opponents played.
“To get somewhere in LaLiga, you have to suffer a bit and we came through it was a team.
“We have to be proud of the team.
“When we started the season, we wanted to win LaLiga, but it hasn’t arrived just yet.”
