In a recent report, AS has revealed that Zinedine Zidane wants Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic to go out on loan in search of more first-team minutes in the upcoming campaign. It is believed that the French head coach recently informed the Serbian striker to seek a loan move away from the Spanish capital this summer (via AS).
Since Jovic arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, he has been far from his best during his spell at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium so far. The Bijeljina-born struggled to secure regular first-team opportunities on his debut season and was mostly a frustrated figure in Zidane’s match-day squad.
The 22-year-old netted two goals and earned two assists in 27 matches for Los Blancos in the previous campaign across all fronts. Jovic failed to give a good account of himself as he averaged 0.8 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2019-20 La Liga season. However, he has done well when distributing the ball after completing 80.6% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The ex-Bundesliga forward has proven his worth as a prolific goal-scorer during his time at Frankfurt, so maybe a season-long loan move could do his confidence a world of good because it doesn’t seem like he will be a significant part of Zidane’s plans for the 2020-21 campaign.
When Jovic is firing on all cylinders, he can be a consistent goal-getter at the highest level as evident from his time in Germany. However, he has failed to justify his worth for Los Blancos thus far as he has struggled to compete with Karim Benzema for a place in Zidane’s starting XI.
The Serbian marksman doesn’t have too much to cheer for if he decides to stay in Madrid for the new season. The lack of first-team action could hamper his development in the long-run. However, if Jovic can figure out a way to be productive if he goes out on loan, then there might be a way back for him at the Bernabeu in the future.
A lot will ride on whether the seven-time Serbian international can overcome his recent struggles in front of goal by being more unforgiving in the final third. It remains to be seen whether Jovic can remain resilient in his fight to rediscover his old form in the coming seasons.
But for now, it seems like a good move for both the striker and his current employers to temporarily part ways with each other before the transfer deadline next month. At 22, Jovic will probably hit his peak in the years to come, so his focus should be to seek a loan move and come back as a better version of himself at the end of this campaign.
