Match report following friendly away to Blumenthaler SV

SV Werder emerged victorious from their penultimate friendly of the 2024/25 post-season on Thursday evening. The Green-Whites won 6-4 in front of 2,650 fans at the Burgwall-Stadion, with regular goalkeeper Michael Zetterer operating in an unfamiliar role.

First half highlights:

2nd minute: Blumenthal break down the left flank before Look is picked out at the far post and he forces the ball over the line.

18th minute: The Green-Whites equalise! Alvero wins possession high up the field and lays off for Zetterer. In the style of a true number nine, our number one places the ball home with his instep.

21st minute: BSV celebrate once more after Look again profits from a cross to the back post, clinching his second with his head.

28th minute: Alvero grabs another leveller! Bittencourt dinks the ball into the box for Alvero and he lobs keeper Walter.

31st minute: Zetterer seals his brace! Njinmah surges down the left wing before setting up Zetterer, who rounds off the move from close range.

Second half highlights:

47th minute: Opitz races from the left into the penalty box and fires low into the far corner.

53rd minute: Schaper receives the chance to strike on goal from a short distance and gets the better of Backhaus.

64th minute: Opitz doubles his tally! Ehlers plays Opitz through and he once again finishes into the far bottom corner from a half-left position.

87th minute: Paeslack breaks through the lines on the left flank once again before sending his effort beyond Backhaus into the net.

90th minute +1: Werder put the rubber stamp on victory and Kasper rises highest in the box to power a header home.

90th minute +2: Full time. Werder defeat Blumenthaler SV in friendly competition. SVW complete their trio of post-season friendlies on Friday, 23.05.2025, when they travel to face OSC Bremerhaven at 16:30 CEST.
