Zero Waste Vision: TSG the first Bundesliga club with silver certification

Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim have achieved another milestone in the zero waste race. Only a year ago, the PreZero Arena became the first European stadium to be awarded the bronze certificate for its operational waste and recycling management by TÜV SÜD. Now, TSG have been handed the silver certificate both for the PreZero Arena and for their headquarters and training ground in Zuzenhausen. That makes the Kraichgau club the first TÜV SÜD-certified zero-waste football club in the Bundesliga.

"The objective is to always keep improving on and off the pitch. In both cases, that is only possible as a team and with the right partners. We have a professional and trusting partnership with PreZero – and not only for our zero-waste vision. We're very grateful for that," said Managing Director Denni Strich, adding: "At the same time, we see the silver certificate as an incentive to achieve even more. The next goal is to achieve gold status."

As part of their efforts to achieve silver, TSG have in recent months worked in partnership with PreZero on various things including the installation of new separation systems in all offices. In addition, all employees have been incorporated into the zero waste project through training. TSG's waste separation rate exceeded the 90% mark in the first quarter of this year, having been significantly lower last year. The result was more than two tons less residual waste compared to the previous year.

"We're empowering clubs and companies alike to achieve their sustainability goals. What started with TSG Hoffenheim has now been adopted by today's opponents RB Leipzig, FC Bayern Munich and, more recently, RCD Mallorca," reported Marcus Sagitz, the Head of Marketing at PreZero International, who will provide information about the successful partnership in an interview as part of the stadium show before TSG's home game against Leipzig.

TSG present first sustainability report

In line with their sustainability activities, TSG Hoffenheim have presented their first sustainability report. The comprehensive report, which has been made a licensing requirement by the German Football League (DFL), covers the Bundesliga club's diverse work in the field and is now freely accessible.

"In this comprehensive report, we've documented not only our fundamental orientation and diversity, but also the structure of their future strategy 'TSG is movement'," said TSG Managing Director Jan Mayer. "It is important to us to show the details that set us apart at TSG. We can all be proud of what we achieve every day, because the label "made in Hoffenheim" is what sets us apart from our competitors." At the same time, the report shows the approach of "rethinking football" is not just an empty phrase.

"It is to the great credit of everyone at TSG that we, as a village club with a regional character, can make a difference worldwide. The unique expertise in the development of young talent, the scientific work and the internationally recognised zero-waste certification – these, in combination with the most successful and attractive football possible, are the foundations of TSG's future," said Mayer.
