Former Roma player and UEFA director Zbigniew Boniek discussed the reasons behind Jose Mourinho’s dismissal from the Italian capital club.
In an interview with Il Quotidiano di Puglia, Boniek was asked about the difference between Mourinho and De Rossi’s management of players and the resulting performances that have seen Roma pick up pace in the race for Top 4 since the Special One’s sacking in January.
“Mourinho is Mourinho, I can’t say anything. However, human relationships are very important in order to reach certain objectives,” said the Polish executive. “The club made the right move.”
“The players were perhaps a little exhausted near the end of Mourinho’s tenure, because if the team is able to go on a run like the one the Giallorossi are on right now it means that the players were not physically exhausted, but perhaps psychologically exhausted.”
“Roma are aiming for the Champions League now – it is their sporting and financial objective. In order to achieve it, they must continue to follow Daniele De Rossi.”
