Zakaria Labyad says he is hoping for an injury-free season next year, and has also revealed the two best players he’s played with at Ajax so far.
Labyad joined Ajax from Utrecht in 2018 and just as he was beginning to nail down a place in the starting XI, the 27-year-old suffered a meniscus injury in last season’s Champions League clash with Lille.
That injury kept him sidelined for several months but he says he’s now fully fit and hoping for more playing time next season.
“First of all, I want to keep fit and be healthy,” Labyad told the official Ajax website when asked about his goals for next year.
“In addition, I naturally want to play as many matches as possible for Ajax.
“Fortunately, I am now fully fit again. I have no more problems with my knee, so I can do everything.”
The Moroccan international will soon be bidding farewell to Hakim Ziyech, who has of course agreed to join Premier League club Chelsea this summer.
And Labyad says his compatriot is one of the best players he’s ever played with.
“In the first place I am of course very proud of him,” added Labyad.
“He has done this himself with his achievements in recent years. I am happy that I was able to play with him in a team for two more years.
“He is together with Frenkie de Jong the best I’ve played with.”
