Mattia Zaccagni was looking forward to facing his former side Hellas Verona in Lazio’s upcoming Serie A clash.

The Italian winger initially joined the Gialloblu in 2013 as a teenager before spending five years with the first team from 2016 to 2021, where he stood out as an exciting and creative forward.

In his second season in Rome, Zaccagni has proven himself to be an indispensable part of Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio squad, scoring eight goals and providing four assists across 18 Serie A appearances.

Speaking to Lazio Style Radio (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Zaccagni first discussed the importance of picking up three points against Hellas Verona.

It will be an important match for us, we have to start looking carefully at the league table. We’ll have to go onto the pitch with the will to win, we’ll try our best to bring home the three points.

He spoke about the qualities of the Gialloblu.

We know Verona, they can put any opponent in difficulty, it will be a tough game, they are a healthy team, so it will be an even more complicated match.

The Italian winger touched on how it felt to return to Verona after his long history with them.

For me it will be a special challenge, it will be a great emotion because I will meet many people who have helped me grow up football-wise, the Bentegodi has always been a great stadium for me and I was treated well there, so, I repeat, it will be a great emotion.

He spoke highly of his forward partners Ciro Immobile and Felipe Anderson.

Immobile is a player who gives us depth, he’s a penalty area killer. Felipe is a false nine, he drops deep, comes to play and we can exploit the spaces vertically with the other two wide players.

Finally, Zaccagni discussed his ambitions to fully break into the Italy national team.

The national team has always been on my mind, it’s every child’s dream, but I only think about doing well with Lazio, then the rest will come as a consequence.
