Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has opened up on the conversation he had with Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount after last weekend's FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

The Reds won the match on penalties. Kostas Tsimikas was given the opportunity to secure the trophy for Liverpool after Mount missed his spot kick.

The Greece international took the chance with both hands. With that being the case, Mount was devastated post-game, which is why Henderson consoled the 23-year-old.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told Sky Sports the following: “That is always a big thing for me. You've got to be respectful to the opponent, especially with players you play with from your national team.

“You know how good they are and that they are good people, especially in penalty shootouts, it's never nice for people to miss penalties. I knew he'd be feeling really down and to be honest, he probably didn't want me going over there thinking back.

“I wanted to give him a bit of support because he's a top player, a great lad and he's still very young. He's got the world at his feet and I'm sure he'll bounce back, and when he gets the opportunity again, he'll step up and put the ball in the back of the net.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Henderson is a class act. He is the captain of the club for a reason. We can imagine that Mount would have appreciated Henderson's act of kindness.

On another note, the Englishman has been a fine servant for Liverpool. Henderson has made 446 appearances for the Reds' first-team and won seven trophies with the club.

The 31-year-old will always be remembered as a legend of the most successful club in England.
