Youssoufa Moukoko out for six weeks, set to miss Chelsea games | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko will be out of action for the next six weeks, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.

The young attacker suffered a tear in the syndesmosis during his side’s weekend clash against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

It is the second time he has suffered this injury after being ruled out for three months in March 2021 with the Germany under-21s.

Moukoko looked sharp before he was kicked by former Dortmund player Leonardo Bittencourt at the Weserstadion on Saturday.

The challenge caused an injury to Moukoko’s ankle, and he had to leave the pitch.

After scans this morning, the player will be sidelined for a month and a half.

Moukoko will miss crucial including Dortmund’s Champions League tie against Chelsea.

The Blues targeted Moukoko ahead of the January transfer window after missing out on Endrick to Real Madrid. The 18-year-old also attracted interest from Newcastle United.

However, Moukoko decided to stay with BVB, penning a new three-year contract until 2026. The German international has been a helpful player for head coach Edin Terzic this season.

Following the absence of Sebastien Haller for cancer treatment, Dortmund signed Anthony Modeste from Koln to replace him. However, Modeste struggled to adapt to his new environment.

Dortmund turned to Moukoko to fill the gap, and the youth star delivered the goods.

He has netted six goals and three assists in 18 league appearances and also has one assist in the Champions League.

Dortmund’s 2-0 win over Bremen keeps them third in the league. They are only three points away from Bayern Munich at the top of the table.

The north Rhine club will also fancy their chances against a listless Chelsea. The Blues are yet to morph into a unit under Graham Potter. They are there for the German team’s taking.
