Josip Stanišić appears to have worked his way into the plans of new Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann.
The 21-year-old was a relative unknown until recently.
And while Bayern have had an underwhelming pre-season, with one draw and three defeats in friendlies, Stanišić has been one of the few bright sparks for the Bavarians.
He is ostensibly a centre-back, but has also been employed at right-back and holding midfielder in his four appearances.
With Bayern stretched through injuries defensively at the moment, it is expected Stanišić will be selected at right-back for Friday’s DFB Pokal first round clash with Bremer SV on Friday.
The defending Bundesliga champions have – by design – been very quiet on the transfer market this summer, but will be hoping that Stanišić’s accelerated development will prove a welcome by-product of that inactivity.
