Young Liverpool left-back eager to prove his worth to Klopp during pre-season schedule: Liverpool’s Adam Lewis willing to step up to provide cover for Andy Robertson
Liverpool academy prospect Adam Lewis says he is looking to impress Jurgen Klopp and his backroom team during the pre-season period.
With Alberto Moreno having completed his move to Villarreal after his Liverpool contract was not renewed, Lewis hopes to become the second-choice left-back at the club behind Andy Robertson next season.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Lewis said:
Lewis is yet to make his first-team debut for The Reds but he knows that at 19, he still has time to play his way into Klopp’s plans over the coming years.
Andy Robertson is currently the only recognised left-back in the first-team squad, however, James Milner and Joe Gomez have covered that position in the past.
With Moreno gone, James Milner now 33 and Joe Gomez preferred in a central role beside Virgil van Dijk, Klopp is likely to want to promote a youth player to provide cover for Robertson on the flank.
Lewis could well be given his taste of first-team action at some stage of the 2019/20 season.
