HEARTS B… 1(McLuckie 55)

Celtic FC B kicked off a busy weekend of Hoops action by running out 2-1 winners against Hearts B at the Excelsior Stadium.

Playing their final home match of the Lowland League campaign at the Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie, goals from Lewis Dobbie and Colby Donovan helped the young Hoops seal all three points.

The young Celts made a bright start to the match, creating an early opening inside six minutes.

Bursting down the right-hand side, Bruno Davidson looked to find Ben Quinn with a square ball inside the area, but his pass just didn’t have enough weight on it.

That wouldn’t be the last of the danger caused by the wide duo, though, who were threatening the Hearts backline with their pace.

And on 17 minutes the Bhoys took the lead through a well-worked goal as Lewis Dobbie continued his fine form in front of goal.

Latching on to a well-weighted pass in behind, some unselfish from Quinn allowed Dobbie the simplest of tasks to tap the ball home from close range into an empty net.

After making a positive start to the match, the Hoops came close to a quick-fire second as Davidson raced through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but he was denied by another smart stop.

They didn’t have to wait long for their second of the match, though, as Colby Donovan got in on the act with a long range strike.

The defender’s finish found the bottom corner, giving the Hearts goalkeeper no chance as Celtic led 2-0 on the night.

However, that well-deserved lead was reduced at the beginning of the second-half as the away side pulled one back with a nicely-taken finish from Bobby McLuckie.

However, that didn’t defer the Bhoys, who continued to play their football in the second half, pushing on for a third goal.

Chances fell the way of Donovan and Jude Bonnar, but they ultimately couldn’t take advantage in the final third.

But the two first-half strikes were enough to secure all three points in Celtic’s final league home match of the campaign.
