Marc Bernal was supposed to become the next big thing coming out of La Masia following an extraordinary start to last season.

The young midfielder impressed onlookers with his brilliant composure and ability to control the tempo in the middle of the park.

However, Bernal’s progression came to a sudden halt when he picked up an injury in the third match of the season. He was diagnosed with a long-term injury, which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Marc Bernal on his journey to recovery

In a recent interaction, Bernal opened up about his long-term injury and how he personally dealt with it.

The youngster reflected on his experience and journey through the recovery process, admitting (h/t Diario SPORT), “Mentally it destroys you. It’s spending a few months in which it’s crazy what you think and how you scratch your head. It’s very difficult, you want to do things you can’t.”

The midfielder went on to admit that he did envy his teammates, who were able to play on the pitch while he had to spend time on the sidelines.

“Days and months go by, and when you see that they are going to play a ‘handsome’ Champions League match, you stay there. That’s very hard,” he said.

Bernal particularly wanted to be a part of Barcelona’s team the day they won the league title, adding, “I really liked, apart from the fact that we won LaLiga, to do it at Espanyol’s ground”

Talking about the support received from his friends and family during his time off the pitch, Bernal stated, “The ones who help you the most are friends and family.

“Also my psychologist, whom I have been going to for years, and the physio, I spend more hours with them than with my family.”

Recent reports, though, suggest Bernal is back from his injury and will be available for Barcelona’s pre-season tour.

Talking about his return, Bernal said, “In principle, I will be there to train, I don’t know. I imagine my return to the field with confidence”.
