Matty Longstaff played the role of Newcastle hero last weekend, scoring the only goal of the game to knock off Manchester United in his Premier League debut.
Playing alongside his brother Sean, who has been linked with a £50m move to the Red Devils, Longstaff truly made the most of his second professional appearance.
Newcastle have been adamant that they want to keep both Longstaffs on the books next season but they’ll have to make it quick as Matty is eligible to speak with foreign clubs in January and leave for free at the end of the season.
Matty is still on his first professional deal, which he signed last year, which most football fans would be stunned to learn pays him just £850-per-week.
That’s a pretty good wage if you’re a regular joe, but not one you would hope for when you’re bagging winners against United.
Plus, think about how intimidating it must be to be in the dressing room with several team-mates that make much more than your annual salary in a single week.
Fortunately for the 19-year-old, with heroics like that, it’s safe to say that he’ll get a very sizable pay raise in the coming months.
