Liverpool won 2-0 against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, extending their lead at the top to nine points.

Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah earned all three points for the Reds at Anfield as they took a massive 11-point lead over City.

At this stage of the season (only 13 games have been played), it is premature to talk about Liverpool’s title chances, as teams like Arsenal or City can bounce back anytime.

Liverpool could also suffer a dip in form, especially if they lose Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk through injuries.

Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports that the next two fixtures can be really challenging for Liverpool.

The Reds will face Newcastle United away from home at St James’ Park on Wednesday night, and they will face Everton in the Premier League at the early kick-off on Saturday.

There’s not enough recovery time for players, and it could have a bearing on the results.

Carragher said: “Whenever there is a week of three Premier League games, a lot can change.

“When I look at this week, I looked at Newcastle away Wednesday night and then play Everton away 12.30. That’s a quick turner.

“If Liverpool could come through that with four or six points, they’re in a great position.”

Roy Keane added: “You don’t get any league medal in December. This team will take some stopping.”

Liverpool need to be pragmatic in their approach and Arne Slot’s methods

Daniel Sturridge made a very good point on the show that Liverpool cannot afford to waste six or eight clear-cut chances as they did against City and expect to win the title.

Pep Guardiola’s side are struggling at the moment, but the Spaniard will definitely come up with an idea to stop the rot.

Slot himself said that nobody, including himself, thought that Liverpool would be in this position after 13 games despite inheriting a very good squad from Jurgen Klopp.

Cody Gakpo shared some secrets behind Liverpool’s impressive form.

He said: “Recover well, sleep good, train hard. It’s working until now and we still have to do that and keep each other sharp.”

Slot has given more emphasis on minor aspects like sleeping patterns, and his methods are working already. With Diogo Jota, Alisson, and Federico Chiesa expected to return to the squad very soon, Liverpool can cope with the pressure of the fixture list.
