Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner believes that this weekend’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against local rivals West Ham United will be far from an easy assignment.

The two sides are scheduled to contest their latest fixture at The Breyer Group Stadium in Leyton on Sunday afternoon.

West Ham United go into the game on 12 points while Spurs are three points behind the East Londoners with two games in-hand. With there being little to separate the two sides on paper, Spurs boss Skinner is anticipating a very tough game.

“You can’t take West Ham lightly, they’re always competing, they’re always aggressive in the way that they play,” Skinner said. “They’ve got some talented players around set plays too which always presents a problem.

“They’ve been a little bit on and off the same as us at times but then they’ve produced very good results at certain times.

“It is probably very similar in terms of where we both are at the moment so for us, the challenge is to make sure that we are at our absolute best from the start of the game to make it as difficult for them as possible because it is not going to be an easy game.”

Tottenham Hotspur were far from at their best as they lost 1-0 at Reading last weekend. Skinner went on to say that a London derby against West Ham United provides a good opportunity for her side to bounce back.

She said “It’s a local London derby and for us, we always look forward to those kind of games. We’ve always had a battle with West Ham so it’s a great rivalry and one that we want to come out on top of on our home ground. The clubs are very close together in terms of where Orient (The Breyer Group Stadium) is.

“I think is a great opportunity for us to get things back on track before we go into the Christmas break.”
