Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury is a player that has reportedly been on Steve Bruce’s radar at West Brom for a couple of weeks now.
However, it did emerge that the Baggies were expected to face competition, with Middlesbrough showing an interest in the 24-year-old too.
The latest development in Choudhury’s situation amidst Championship interest is that the Foxes are hoping to find a suitor who will agree to pay 80% of his wages.
In response to whether or not he believes that will prevent West Brom from continuing to monitor Choudhury’s situation, Carlton Palmer told FLW: “Generally when a player goes out on loan from a Premier League club, they very much assisting in the salary, you know, as much as the parent club paying up to 75% of the salary.
“So, in this case, where they’re asking for 80%, you can look at it that they’re prepared to let Choudhury go.

“So, it’s a question whether Steve Bruce looks at him and thinks he’s a player that he would like to take to the football club.”
The verdict
First and foremost, that is a significant chunk of a player’s wages who has been playing Premier League football, meaning that this is a deal that would not come cheap.
Despite a loan move being proposed, Palmer certainly makes a good point that the steep percentage could act as an indicator that a permanent clause could be included in this move.
If there is no opportunity for a permanent clause, then it would not make financial sense for either Middlesbrough or West Brom.
But if there is a permanent option added, then maybe several other clubs might start considering the 24-year-old ahead of the new campaign.
