FC Barcelona are working towards making moves in the transfer market. It is important for the club to reinforce the squad and give Hansi Flick with better depth to compete across all competitions next season and Deco seems to have set the ball rolling.
It looks like the Catalan club has wrapped up their first signing of the summer, although it isn’t official yet. After a couple of weeks of intense negotiations, Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia has agreed to move across the city to join Hansi Flick’s team.
The 24-year-old Spaniard has been the best goalkeeper in La Liga this season, and this is the one position in the Barcelona first team that needs reinforcement. Garcia is young and could prove to be an upgrade on Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who is on the wrong side of his 30s.

Meanwhile, one other player Barcelona have been linked with, not currently but in the future, is Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. The Argentinian striker moved to Spain at the start of the season and has had an impressive campaign.
Fernando Hidalgo, the agent of the Argentinian striker, was asked if his client admires Barcelona, as he revealed to El Chiringuito TV via Reshad Rahman, here is what he had to say about Alvarez:
“Does Alvarez like Barça? Yes, yes, of course, he admires Spanish clubs. And having followed Messi’s career since he was a child, it’s clear that there are few Argentinians who don’t feel something for Barça, especially given Barça’s performance this season.”
“Julian is very grateful to the many Barça players who have always spoken well of him, like Cubarsí, which motivates him.”
“Today he’s at Atlético and he’s very happy here, as are Atlético. We’ll see how things evolve; football evolves quickly and good things will happen.”

Julian Alvarez is very evidently a Barcelona fan, and all that his agent’s words have done is open the door for a potential move in the future. It is a ‘come-get-me’ card to the Catalan club in advance, even as he looks set to continue at Atletico Madrid in the upcoming campaign.
The €90m-rated star striker has made 54 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 29 goals and providing 7 assists. He has what it takes to lead the line at Barcelona in the future, and 2026 might be a perfect time to make a move for him.
With Robert Lewandowski’s contract expiring at the end of 2026, Barcelona might have to go into the market for a new striker. It remains to be seen if the Catalan club make a move for Julian Alvarez in the seasons to come.
