Though Yerry Mina was hampered with a number of injuries in his debut campaign at Goodison Park, the 24-year-old bounced back to put on a slew of incredible performances with Colombia at Copa America.
You can be sure that Everton team-mate Leighton Baines was not surprised by his dominant displays.
In an interview with Everton’s official website, the long-time Toffees veteran made it clear how much he respects and appreciates the Colombian international.
“I think we had a great group of lads last year,” said Baines, who agreed a new one-year deal with the Toffees earlier this month.
“The lads we brought in all had their own personalities and all added something to the dressing room.
“We have a lot of South American lads and that was great as well – we saw a different culture and a different way they approach training and coming in every day. And then we tried to show them the way over here as well.
“Yerry Mina, his enthusiasm to come in and fit and learn the language and include himself in things, it was great to see that.
“I have so much respect for him. Over the past year, he had setbacks with injuries and his attitude was amazing.
“When you see that and the work someone like that is putting in, and the effort they have to make that you don’t in terms of culture and language, you do then want to give a bit more back yourself.”
Following his €30m move from Barcelona last summer, Mina was only able to make 15 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions.
