An update on the fitness and well-being of Girona midfielder Yangel Herrera has been provided ahead of key clashes against Orihuela on Thursday and Barcelona on Sunday.
Girona continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 victory against Valencia on Saturday, which ensured that they kept pace with leaders Real Madrid. However, during the contest, Herrera – a key member of this side – was taken off and looks set for a period of the sidelines.
Just under 15 minutes played and the midfielder went to ground in discomfort and signalled for a change to be made. Pablo Torre came on in his absence and despite this setback, Míchel’s men managed to come from behind to earn the all-important three points.
Meanwhile, there was positive news for head coach Míchel, who was able to welcome back David López now that he had recovered from a thigh injury.
Following the same tests, the Catalan club have announced the extent of the player’s injury through a medical report. According to Relevo, the 25-year-old has suffered a myotendinous strain injury.
The club also announced that Herrera will not feature for the rest of this year and is expected to be out for at least six weeks. He will therefore miss the second round of Copa del Rey against Orihuela and the crucial match against Barcelona at the weekend.
The midfielder has made 15 appearances this season and although he is known for his defensive ability, he has also chipped in with four goals.
