The shoulder injury that Xavi Simons suffered in RB Leipzig’s 3-2 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League is not as bad as first feared, the club have announced.

The midfielder underwent MRI examinations after the game on Tuesday night. Doctors later confirmed that they could not find any major structural damage. A huge sigh of relief for all associated with the Saxon club.

The club are yet to confirm when Simons will be able to start again, but should be in the near future rather than a longer absence.

Simons was signed to replace a percentage of Christopher Nkunku’s output at Leipzig last season, and while on his way to doing so, he is fast becoming a fan favourite in Leipzig. So far this season, the 20-year-old has scored four and assisted seven times in 12 Bundesliga games.

Leipzig host FC Hidenheim this Saturday as they look to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga.
