According to reputed journalist Javi Miguel, Barcelona could soon start to soften their stance on Frenkie de Jong.

The midfielder has been a subject of fresh speculation linking him with a move away from Camp Nou. The club were adamant about keeping hold of the player, with Xavi, in particular, remaining a top admirer.

The Barcelona coach had strictly asked the club not to sanction the sale of Frenkie, with the Catalans subsequently putting a hefty €100 million price tag on the player.

However, it appears Xavi is seemingly softening his stance on Frenkie de Jong. He has become more open about the idea of selling the Dutchman in light of his shortcomings at Camp Nou.

During his time in charge at Barcelona so far, Xavi had expected de Jong to take his game to the next level and become the desired replacement for Sergio Busquets.

But the former Ajax starlet has not lived up to the expectations just yet and has failed to step up to the plate. It has compelled Xavi to become more open about his potential exit at Camp Nou.

However, Xavi has not given the green light just yet. The Spaniard recognises how important the Dutchman is to the Barça setup and has asked the club to not entertain any offers below the €80 million mark.

Xavi has reportedly considered the possibility of signing Bernardo Silva as a direct replacement for de Jong. The Portuguese international could be better fitted to his setup, although the operation to sign the Manchester City star could be difficult.

Javi Miguel suggests Barcelona have another player in their sights, in the form of Carlos Soler. The Valencia star is facing an uncertain future at Mestalla and could consider joining the Barça camp.

His experience and technical prowess could make him an ideal fit for Barcelona’s style of play, although it appears unlikely de Jong will want to leave Camp Nou in the first place.
