Barcelona, of course, will mark their return to action on Saturday night.

Sandwiched between the two legs of the club’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Paris Saint-Germain, the Blaugrana are set to make the trip to Andalusia, for a La Liga meeting with Cádiz.

In the midst of such an important week for his side, Xavi is expected to make wholesale changes to his XI at the Nuevo Mirandilla, to afford some much-needed rest to his more high-profile performers.

And stepping in in their places will be some of the more seldom seen of the Catalans’ stars.

Speaking to the media on Friday afternoon, the potential participation of one particular youngster, namely Mikayil Faye, was in turn put to Barcelona’s headmaster.

Stopper Faye, for his part, has been training with Xavi’s squad for several weeks now, amid his ongoing excellence at youth level with Rafa Márquez’s Barca Atlètic.

And, in his response, the Spanish tactician all but confirmed that the plan is to afford the 19-year-old his first-team debut against Cádiz:

“He’ll be part of the squad. He’s ready. We’re watching and following them (the young talents). They are very prepared footballers. La Masia always pays off. Faye, Casado… the competition is fierce. But he is ready in my eyes, yes.”
