On Saturday night, Xavi Hernandez made a shocking announcement, confirming that he would be leaving FC Barcelona at the end of the ongoing season.

The 44-year-old had come under intense pressure after the team’s disappointing run of form and announced that he would step down in the summer after the 3-5 defeat to Villarreal, stating that the players needed a change of dynamics.

Barcelona to save €12 million in salary

Now, SPORT is reporting that Xavi and his staff will leave Barcelona without seeking any remuneration that would have been owed to them for the next season.

Xavi had signed a new contract with Barça at the beginning of the campaign, penning an extension until 2025, which saw him agree to a significant raise in salary.

Having initially been on a salary of €4 million gross, the manager’s new wages rose up to €8 million while his staff’s increased from €1.5 million to €4 million.

Now, though, with Xavi set to step away at the end of the season, he and his staff have also decided to fully forego the salary that would be owed for next year.

It would mean Barcelona will be saving €12 million in salary that they would have owed to Xavi and his staff.

As for his replacements, the search is already underway with names like Jurgen Klopp, Imanol Alguacil, Hansi Flick, and Thiago Motta doing the rounds.
