Xavi aims parting shot at Barcelona board after sacking

Departing Barcelona manager Xavi on Sunday night made use of the opportunity to aim a less-than-subtle dig at those in a position of power at the club.

As much, of course, comes fresh off his dismissal.

Xavi for his part oversaw his final fixture as Barcelona boss yesterday evening.

After being informed that his services would no longer be required beyond the summer earlier this week, the Spaniard guided the Blaugrana into their La Liga season finale, against Sevilla.

When all was said and done in Andalusia, the visitors emerged on the right side of a 2-1 result, owing to goals on the part of Robert Lewandowski, and Fermín López.

And yet, post-match, it was not the subject of the action on the pitch at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán which took its place front and centre in Xavi’s exchange with the media.

This, instead, came in the form of his imminent departure.

Just weeks on from seeing his continuity for next season confirmed by the Barcelona brass, the ex-midfielder is of course now facing up to a spell away from the game.

Drawn on his time in the dugout in Catalunya’s capital all told, Xavi therefore saw his chance to aim something of a jibe at those above him, in responding:

“I feel like we did this work during an earthquake. We never had peace of mind. I asked for stability [from the board], but we never got it.”
