Xabi Prieto has confirmed he will retire at the end of the season after 14 years at Real Sociedad.
The 34-year-old has played for the Basque club and its B side across all four of Spain’s top divisions, making 530 first-team appearances since his debut in 2003.
“His class on and off the field will remain forever etched in the memory of the Real Sociedad family,” read a statement from the Basque club.
“Thanks for everything, Xabi!”
Prieto netted 80 goals for his boyhood club, and will retire as the club’s fifth highest appearance maker of all time.
His career highlight, arguably, was captaining La Real in their 2013/14 Champions League campaign.
