Wigan Athletic had a disappointing weekend as the Latics fell to a 3-1 defeat against Cardiff City.

Leam Richardson’s side have fallen to 16th in the Championship as a result of that home loss.

But a clash with Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night represents an opportunity to immediately turn things around and bounce back with a good performance.

This fixture was originally scheduled for 10 September, but was postponed as a mark of respect for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Wigan have a game in hand on most of the division due to the postponement of their clash with Coventry City, which means a win could see the team move up to 8th while having played the same amount of games as their rivals.

Here we predict how Richardson will line up his side to face Rovers this midweek…

Wigan made the move to a back three against the Bluebirds at the weekend, which didn’t prove to be a successful experiment.

Shifting to a back four again is more likely, with the team set to return to their usual 4-2-3-1 formation.

Charlie Wyke scored his first goal of the season in the defeat to Cardiff in what was his second start of the campaign, and he will likely keep his place leading the line on Tuesday night.

Ben Amos will also keep his place in goals, but there could be a number of changes everywhere in between.

Has Gavin Massey ever made an appearance in the Premier League?

Yes No

Curtis Tilt and Jack Whatmough could line up in defence, replacing Joe Bennett and Jason Kerr.

James McClean will keep his place on the left flank, with Ryan Nyambe set to start on the right.

Max Power is one yellow away from suspension so could be rested, in place of Graeme Shinnie and Tom Naylor stepping into the starting midfield.

An attacking trio of Will Keane, Nathan Broadhead and Thelo Aasgaard are likely to slot in behind Wyke.
