Sheffield United thought they’d taken the lead at Villa Park on Wednesday when Aston Villa goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland fumbled a free-kick and appeared to clearly carry the ball over his own goal-line.
But for some reason, goal-line technology didn’t detect that the ball had crossed the line and VAR didn’t intervene either.
After the game, Hawk-Eye Innovations, the technology provider, apologised for the glaring error.
But viewers on Twitter were distinctly unimpressed …
And there was us thinking goal-line technology was pretty foolproof!
