The FA Women’s Super League was full of action on Saturday with six more teams kicking off the new season.

Here’s what went down.

Tottenham  v Birmingham City

Scorers: Graham 40′

It was a tight affair throughout the first half with plenty of chances but the hosts looked the better of the two sides.

Tottenham’s Jessica Naz and Josie Green saw efforts fall short before Kit Graham’s cross from outside the box made its way past everyone and into the net just before the break.

In the second half, Tottenham continued to throw everything they had against Birmingham to try and keep hold of the three points.

Graham continued to threaten the visitors but debutant Jiali Tang was another who caused problems after coming on for the goalscorer and going inches wide of the post herself.

The visitors tried to make the most of any opportunity they had when holding possession of the ball but couldn’t find a way to turn things around.

Everton v Manchester City

Scorers: Losada 26′, Beckie 36′, Shaw 38′, Houghton 67′

A healthy crowd gathered at Goodison Park to watch two sides with title ambitions this season.

It was Everton who had the better of the early chances as Toni Duggan went close inside the opening 15 minutes.

But City started to turn the screw soon after and were ahead on 27 minutes as Vicky Losada lashed home.

And soon it was two as Janine Beckie waltzed past one defender and rifled an effort into the bottom left-hand corner.

The visitors were rampant now and got a third soon after through Khadija Shaw.

City continued their complete domination in the second half as Steph Houghton netted a free kick to add a fourth.

Aston Villa v Leicester

Scorers: Mayling 63′, Allen 64′; Flint 39′

It was Leicester who did most of the pressing early on and really should have gone ahead on 20 minutes only for Samantha Tierney to head wide despite being unmarked in the box.

Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton was kept busy throughout the first half, making one particularly fine save from Natasha Flint.

But she made a howler late on, failing to catch a Flint effort and seeing the ball squirm into the net.

Into the second half and against the run of play the home side grabbed an equaliser through a Sarah Mayling free kick.

Villa’s tails were up now and soon went ahead as Remi Allen made it two in two minutes for the hosts.

The action continues on Sunday with a heavyweight clash between Arsenal and Chelsea before West Ham take on Brighton.
