It was a tense top-tier clash between these two league giants, but one moment of brilliance led to Manchester United beating title rivals Arsenal 1-0.

It was a game of few chances as neither side could truly get up and running in terms of attack, though the hosts were slightly livelier.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, the Gunners were hit with a huge blow after Leah Williamson was forced off with an apparent knee injury after 10 minutes.

The match remained a cagey affair by half-time, and it looked like things would remain 0-0 until an open Alessia Russo finished off a cutback by Nikita Parris with the game’s first shot on target.

Coming out into the second half, the tempo increased for both teams but strong finishing continued to be absent for either side. Russo did almost score another, but goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger came up big.

With Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead out, Arsenal’s attack looked flat-footed as Stina Blackstenius and Victoria Pelova failed to have an impact.

So even despite another 45 minutes of action and seven minutes of injury time, the lone strike was enough for the hosts to come out on top.

The result means Manchester United now hold a four-point lead at the top over Chelsea (who have two games in hand) while Arsenal are third.

Brighton finally win to get off the bottom

Scorers: Terland 12â€Č, 80â€Č, Robinson 43â€Č; Snoeijs 63â€Č, 83â€Č

Brighton managed to move up from the relegation zone with a 3-2 win over Everton.

Despite the visitors dominating 69% possession of the ball and registering three of four attempts on target in the first half, the deadly finishing of the hosts decided this match.

Elisabeth Terland’s header opened the scoring for Brighton before a brilliant ball over the top from Megan Connolly found Katie Robinson, and she chipped home a second.

Coming out after the break, Everton made three changes straight off the hop to try and ignite some life into their squad.

Luckily for them, the tactics worked, and Katja Snoeijs’s solo run and finish at the near post made things a one-goal game before she added another.

However, Terland ensured the Everton ace wouldn’t be the only one to earn a brace on the night, and her drilled shot from inside the box proved to be the match-winner.

The result means Brighton moved up to 10th with their first league win since November, while Everton are sixth.
