The big games in the Women’s Super League haven’t disappointed this season and Sunday was no different as Chelsea beat Manchester United at Kingsmeadow.
United were top of the table heading into the game but the reigning champions knew a win would take them top of the league with a game in hand.
And they didn’t just win, they won convincingly.
Sam Kerr was dangerous throughout the first half but it was Pernille Harder who broke the deadlock, firing in a rebound as Chelsea threatened multiple times from a corner.
The Blues could have had the game wrapped up by the break but it was just the one goal lead.
And that was a concern. United have come out strongly in the second half in big games against Man City and Arsenal this season.
And they did get an equaliser, with Lauren James netting her first goal of the season in superb fashion.
Unlike City and Arsenal, though, Chelsea didn’t allow United to unsettle them. A long ball upfield fell to Fran Kirby, who raced away and finished cooly to win the points.
The title is now very much Chelsea’s to lose.
