Another Sunday, another round of Women’s Super League Action!

Five matches were scheduled today and the results made for some changes in the table.

Here is how everything went down.


Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 Manchester United

Scorers: Kaagman (P) 25′

Over at Broadfield Stadium, Brighton & Hove Albion hosted Manchester United and claimed all three points.

The visitors maintained most of the possession but the hosts took the lead in the 25th minute when the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Inessa Kaagman then converted what proved to be the winning goal for Brighton.

Coming out into the second, Manchester United upped their attack in attempts to turn the tie around but couldn’t capitalize on any opportunities.

With the result, Brighton gain three points and stay sixth while Manchester United drop to fourth.


Bristol City 0-4 Arsenal

Scorers: Miedema 4′, 65′, Van de Donk 45+1′, Mead 63′

Over at Twerton Park, Bristol City hosted Arsenal and the visitors hit the ground running outshooting their opponents 23-3.

Just four minutes into the match, Arsenal took the lead through none other than Vivianne Miedema and Daniëlle van de Donk made it 2-0 just before the break.

Afterwards, Beth Mead was able to get in on the action and add a third for the Gunners then Miedema hit the fourth to go level with Chelsea’s Sam Kerr for the league’s top scorer.

With the result, Bristol City stay second-last just one point above Aston Villa.

Arsenal, on the other hand, leapfrog over Manchester United and move into third with a game in hand.


Tottenham 0-3 Manchester City

Over at the Hive, Tottenham hosted Manchester City as both clubs looked to grab three crucial points.

It didn’t take long for the deadlock to break and the visitors took the lead after a Rebecca Spencer own-goal just five minutes in.

As the clock wore down, City continued to pepper Spurs with chances and Janine Beckie made it 2-0 just before halftime.

Coming out into the second, City continued to push forward and Caroline Weir added a third at the hour mark.

With the result, Tottenham stay eighth in the table whereas Manchester City sit two points behind leaders Chelsea.


Everton 3-1 Aston Villa

In the second match of the day, Everton hosted Aston Villa at Walton Hall Park.

It was an end-to-end match throughout the first half with either side having chances on goal though the hosts remained in control with 72 per cent possession.

Eventually, Everton were able to take the lead through Lucy Graham’s header just after the half-hour mark.

After the break, a penalty from Izzy Christiansen doubled their lead and Simone Magill added a third.

Aston Villa then pulled on back through Chloe Arthur in injury time.

With the result, fifth-place Everton creep closer to the top four while Aston Villa stay in the relegation zone.


Chelsea 6-0 Birmingham City

After their successful Women’s Champions League triumph, Chelsea returned to league action and hosted Birmingham City at Kingsmeadow.

The hosts pressured the visitor’s defence but Birmingham City kept Chelsea tame until the 25th minute.

However, the talents of Sam Kerr have proven to be too much as a first-half hat-trick saw the Blues hold a 3-0 lead at the break.

Kerr is now tied with Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema as top league scorer.

In the second half, Fran Kirby scored a brace and Guro Reiten also found the net to cap off Chelsea’s sixth consecutive WSL win.

With the result, Chelsea maintain their lead at the top of the table and Birmingham City stay ninth.
