Chelsea welcomed city rivals West Ham to Kingsmeadow on Wednesday and picked up all three points after a 2-0 win.
Scorers: England 51âČ, Cuthbert 82âČ
The Womenâs Super League title holders bounced back from their disappointing draw against Brighton with a dominant performance.
A firecracker right from the start, Chelsea quickly gained control of the match and eyed an early breakthrough.
Fran Kirby, Guro Reiten, and Pernille Harder had multiple chances to open the scoring with the Denmark international coming the closest but her bullet header was saved.
Down at the other end, KateĆina SvitkovĂĄ and Claudia Walker caused problems for the hosts but couldnât register a shot on target all half.
Instead, they had to thank the efforts of goalkeeper Anna Leat for keeping things 0-0.
Hoping to jolt her sideâs performance, Emma Hayes brought Bethany England off the bench in the second half and the decision proved to be worthwhile.
Only six minutes after the restart, the striker became just the fifth player to score 50 WSL goals.
As time went on, the hosts continued to pepper West Ham with chances but things stood 1-0 as the visitors did just enough to keep the scoreline down. At the same time, they also couldnât find an equaliser.
Eventually, a long-range effort from Erin Cuthbert just before full-time secured the three points for the champions.
The result means Chelsea sit one point behind leaders Arsenal who face Brighton on Thursday. West Ham, meanwhile, sit seventh.
