The bottom two clubs in the Women’s Super League went head-to-head at Bescot Stadium and a late push from Bristol City saw them draw Aston Villa 2-2.
Scorers: Haigh 35′; Sargeant (OG) 3′, Bryson 74′, Mastrantonio 90+5′
Tied on points at the bottom of the table, three vital points were up for grabs and the visitors got off to a bit of an unlucky start.
Meaghan Sargeant’s own goal three minutes in handed Villa an early lead and with some pressure off their shoulders, the momentum was flowing for the hosts.
By the 35th minute, Natalie Haigh made it 2-0 after finishing off a set-piece routine.
After the break, Bristol City focused on their defense and against the run of play, substitute Faye Bryson made it 2-1 with seemingly her first touch of the game.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser and left it until the last second as substitute Ella Mastrantonio found the back of the net to help Bristol City steal a crucial point.
With the result, both teams remain tied at the bottom of the table with Aston Villa in eleventh and Bristol City in twelfth.
