It was one-way traffic in the first half as the hosts aimed to attack the visitors right from the start.

Early on, Lisa Evans managed to get in behind Villa’s backline and crossed the ball to a lurking Adriana Leon who made no mistake placing it in the bottom corner.

It’s the first goal of the season for the Canadian Olympic gold medalist who looks ready to get back to her best after a major foot injury last season.

The chances continued to fall for the hosts but Villa’s defence did just enough to keep the scoreline 1-0 by the half-time whistle.

After the break, however, the visitors were keen to make things all square and lunged forward.

Emily Gielnik rattled a shot off the post and West Ham goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold was forced to make big saves on attempts from Remi Allen and Shania Hayles late in the game.

Eventually, the late push from Villa was enough and a header from Allen in the dying minute sees both clubs share the points.
