Another big side dropping points, but two of the big names hand out batterings.
The second weekend of the season was another full of excitement.
After Chelsea dropped points on opening weekend, Manchester City were held to a draw against Brighton on Sunday as Lucy Bronze made her return to English football.
The Citizens dominated proceedings but couldnât make a breakthrough, meaning the Seagulls went home with a very impressive point.
Brighton beat Birmingham last weekend, havenât conceded yet this season and are level on points with City, Chelsea and Manchester United at this early stage. Hats off to Hope Powellâs side.
Weâre sorry for not giving it to you last weekend, Jill Roord.
The 23-year-old netted two goals last season. Sheâs started 2020/21 with back-to-back hat-tricks. We couldnât overlook her again after that.
Roord netted the first, fifth and seventh goals as Arsenal laid down another marker with a second big win in a row.
Itâs another Arsenal player who could have felt aggrieved to have missed out last weekend. It is, of course, Vivianne Miedema.
Another powerful strike made it another brace for the Dutch international, who moved onto 46 WSL goals in just 48 appearances over the weekend. Three more and sheâll be the leagueâs all-time top scorer.
Chelsea on cloud nine
After disappointingly dropping points on opening weekend, the champions responded in some style. They had nine different scorers in their 9-0 win on Sunday. New signing Pernille Harder netted, as did superstar Sam Kerr and last seasonâs top scorer Beth England.
Bristol City, who already lost 4-0 to Everton last week, have a long season ahead of them.
Best of the rest?
Everton continued their impressive start with a 1-0 win over Tottenham. The Toffees are, along with Arsenal, one of only two sides with a 100% record at this early stage.
Elsewhere, Man Utd followed up their point against Chelsea with a 5-2 win over Birmingham. After making some big signings, theyâll be hoping to challenge the top three this time around.
