We had another mouth-watering day of Women’s Super League action this Sunday.

Here is what went down.

Arsenal v West Ham

Scorers: Nobbs 42′, Blackstenius 53′, Maannum 70′; Brynjarsdóttir 35′

Arsenal set a WSL record for most league wins in a row (13) following a 3-1 comeback win over West ham.

The hosts were in complete control throughout the first 45 minutes but struggled to link up at the top of the pitch.

West Ham, meanwhile, remained alert down at the other end and a rare miscue at the back allowed Dagný Brynjarsdóttir to run in and bundle the ball over the line beyond Manuela Zinsberger against the run of play.

It was the first time Arsenal have conceded in the league in 15 hours.

West Ham’s lead, however, would be undone by half-time. Unfortunately for Arsenal Kim Little was forced off early with an injury only for her replacement Jordan Nobbs to blast home a long-range strike with her second touch of the game for 1-1.

Coming out after the break, Arsenal then turned things up a notch as they looked to maintain their perfect run.

Stina Blackstenius would go on to put the hosts in front after redirecting a cross home before Frida Maanum eased any pressure from a depleted West Ham side with a third.

The result means Arsenal are tied at the top with Manchester United and Chelsea (all 15 points) but sit second while West Ham are seventh.

Man City v Liverpool

Scorers: Shaw 21′, Raso 75′; Stengel 33′

The big-name clash of the weekend saw Manchester City face Liverpool and the hosts came out on top 2-1.

It was a busy first half between these two sides with 17 shots but only five hit the target. City however were the side controlling the pace of the game with more possession.

Khadija Shaw opened the scoring for the hosts after slotting the ball home in the box but Katie Stengel would make things all square at the break.

Eventually, the difference came down to a bit of luck. Hayley Raso saw her initial shot saved, fell in the process, but got up quick enough to turn things around 2-1.

The result means Manchester City are fourth while Liverpool are 10th.

Chelsea v Aston Villa

Scorers: James 22′, 47′, Kerr 63′; Daly 38′

Chelsea had to turn on the afterburners to pull off a 3-1 win over Aston Villa

It was one-way traffic for the hosts as they looked to keep up in the tight race for top spot in the table and thankfully for them, they had the likes of Lauren James at the top of her game.

The England international opened the scoring with her first of the season only for the inevitable Rachel Daly to pull Villa level before the break with a back-heel flick.

Coming out after the break, James secured a brace after being teed up by Pernille Harder before Sam Kerr joined in on the action to ease any pressure off the hosts late on.

The result means Chelsea are tied at the top on 15 points but sit third while Villa are eighth.

Everton v Man Utd

Scorers: Parris 13′, Galton 55′, Ladd 68′

Manchester United moved to the top of the WSL table following a routine 3-0 win over Everton.

It was a nervy affair during the opening moments but both sides had their scoring boots on with five of six combined shots finding the target.

But it was the visitors who had a bit more luck throughout 90 minutes with Nikita Parris scoring her second goal in as many league games only for Leah Galton to ease any pressure and Hayley Ladd added a third from the edge of the area.

Everton, meanwhile, failed to put any of their efforts into the back of the net.

The result means United are tied at the top with Arsenal and Chelsea on 15 points but lead the way while Everton are seventh.

Brighton v Tottenham

Scorers: Bartrip 2′, Karczewska 19′, Neville 29′, 56′, Spence 45+2′, 58′, Naz 60′, 83′

It was one-way traffic at Broadfield Stadium as Tottenham pulled off a rampant 8-0 victory over Brighton.

The visitors maintained less possession of the ball over 90 minutes but clearly had their scoring boots on right from the first whistle.

Molly Bartrip scored a stunning long-range chip two minutes in before goals from Nikola Karczewska, Ashleigh Neville and Drew Spence put them up 4-0.

Coming out after the break. Brighton struggled to contain Tottenham’s press and did not pose any real threats at the other end.

Neville and Spence went on to secure braces while Jessica Naz joined in on the action with a brace of her own for 8-0. The first goal was another long-range chip in stunning fashion.

The result means Tottenham are fifth in the table while Brighton’s losing streak extends to three games and they sit 11th.

Reading v Leicester City

Scorers: Rowe 90′, 90+2′; Flint 36′

Reading picked up three massive points after beating Leicester twice at the death for a 2-1 win.

It was a tense encounter between these two sides at Madejski Stadium with the sides both pushing for an opener and possession of the ball virtually split down the middle.

But it only took one moment of magic to separate the sides as Shannon O’Brien slid the ball toward the always-lethal Natasha Flint and the striker stayed calm cool and collected.

It looked as though the points would go in the hands of the Foxes only for Rachel Rowe to score in the 90th and 92nd minute to stun Leicester and save the hosts.

The result is huge for Reading as they picked up their first win of the season and move further away from the relegation zone into ninth while Leicester remain bottom of the table with zero points.
