Wrexham take huge step towards Championship

Wrexham took a big step in the League One promotion race, after breaking down 10-man Burton Albion with a 3-0 win to open up a six-point lead over rivals Wycombe Wanderers.

Goals from Steven Fletcher, Sam Smith, and Jack Marriott in the second half sealed the win on a day that could prove to be a turning point in the battle for Championship promotion.

With Wycombe losing to Reading, Phil Parkinson’s team now control their own fate and have closed the gap on goal difference.

With just five games left in their bid to make history with a third straight promotion, the Red Dragons will travel to Wigan next weekend, while the Chairboys play their game in hand at Huddersfield on Tuesday before hosting Stevenage the following Saturday.
