Wrexham AFC are reportedly set to battle other EFL clubs including Bolton Wanderers, Oxford United, and Charlton Athletic in the chase for Benji Magee.
The Red Dragons have mounted a highly successful challenge for promotion in their first season back in the EFL since 2008, and with growing age against them when it comes to their plethora of attackers, a bargain-buy young prospect from the NIFL Premiership could be a move on the cards this summer.
This interest has been revealed by TeamTalk, who report that Wrexham are one of four Football League sides to hold interest in the 21-year-old. It has been said that Bolton, Oxford and Charlton are the other teams that currently view Magee as a summer target.
All the interested parties view Magee as a potential future star and someone who could easily make the switch to full-time professional football.
Magee's team Loughgall FC are unlikely to stand in the way of letting their star man leave either, as long as their valuation for compensation is met or exceeded.
As listed on Transfermarkt, Magee's contract expires this summer, and with an impressive 18 goal contributions for his team across this season – 17 goals and one assist – interest from England's third and fourth tiers is no surprise.
The Northern Irish youngster has been keenly watched by Ryan Reynolds' and Rob McElhenney's team this season, with the Welsh side regularly checking in on his progress, alongside all other potential suitors.
He recently got called up to the U21 camp for Northern Ireland, and despite not featuring, it adds another notch in his cap and provides solid reasoning for all the rumored interest.
Magee has played across the front three for Loughgall FC this season in the NIFL Premiership, featuring mostly as a centre-forward or a right-winger, as seen in his player of the week feature on NIFL's Facebook page.
This type of signing would suit Wrexham AFC too, as they lack an attacking pace with current strikers Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer and Steven Fletcher. The player he is perhaps most similar to in the current Wrexham squad is perhaps Jack Marriott.
The former Derby County striker hasn't lived up to the hype though, since dropping down the divisions to sign for the Welsh club on Winter Deadline Day, registering zero goals and zero assists across his 12 appearances for the club so far.
This is in comparison to Magee, who has kept it consistent in the NIFL by scoring a goal every 135 minutes, roughly a goal every other game.
As mentioned before, Wrexham are not the only team interested in Magee, and with Bolton currently in the race for promotion to the Championship, they do provide an interesting option for him if he is setting his sights high in English football.
Charlton and Oxford hold the other EFL-based interests, but with neither experiencing much success this year, all eyes lie on the two promotion chasers.
However, with Bolton's squad already featuring a lot of similar players to Magee, Wrexham may have the edge when it comes to the most enticing project for a player who would be making his first steps into English football.
