With a game in hand over league leaders Stockport County, Wrexham are just four points off the top of the League Two standings currently, and they will be looking to add to their squad in January to help get them over the line come the end of the season.
The Red Dragons are doing very well indeed in their first EFL season in 15 years, although it was to be somewhat expected with the funds of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney backing them.
The likes of Elliott Lee and Paul Mullin have fired in the goals for Phil Parkinson's side to put them in second position in the league table, but despite the likes of Ollie Palmer and Steven Fletcher deputising, Wrexham seemingly want to add more fire-power in the upcoming January transfer window.
And according to the Sunday Mirror's Sports Editor Darren Witcoop, the League Two high-flyers have a pair of experienced goalscoring strikers well and truly on their radar to try and give them an edge on their rivals for the final few months of the campaign.
Per Witcoop, one of the players being eyed up by the North Wales outfit is Lee Gregory, who is on the fringes of the Sheffield Wednesday first-team in the Championship.
Gregory has featured 13 times for the Owls in the Championship this season, scoring just the once on the opening day of the season against Southampton, but the emergence of Bailey Cadamarteri has pushed the 35-year-old down the pecking order further, with just one cameo appearance under Danny Rohl since late October.
In recent seasons though, Gregory has scored goals at both Championship and League One level, and with his contract expiring at Hillsborough in the summer, he could be potentially added to the options of Parkinson at Wrexham.
The other player being targeted however is Peterborough United attacker Jonson Clarke-Harris, who like Gregory at Wednesday has a contract expiring at London Road in June 2024.
A scorer of 58 goals in his last two full League One seasons before the current campaign began, as well as 12 Championship goals struck for Posh in 2021-22, Clarke-Harris was on the verge of a move back to Bristol Rovers in the summer transfer window, only for the deal to not be finalised on deadline day in September.
The 29-year-old has been dropped since October by Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson, with Posh planning for life without the prolific striker from January onwards and a sale is all-but expected to happen - Wrexham though have joined the mix for Clarke-Harris' signature.
At the age of 35, Gregory may still have something to offer at League Two level, but he would be in the mould of Steven Fletcher has only scored twice in 12 appearances for Wrexham since his arrival.
If they could get their hands on someone in their prime like Clarke-Harris though to pair up with Mullin, then that could be the catalyst to get the Red Dragons over the line and into League One.
Clarke-Harris would cost a six-figure fee and a big wage for League Two's standards, but he could be worth it and then his ability to find the back of the net in the division above would also be beneficial.
It may be an expensive risk for Reynolds and McElhenney, but Clarke-Harris would be worth it if he's willing to drop into the fourth tier.
