Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has made a shock offer to Gareth Bale to come out of retirement and play for the Welsh club for one last season.

The legendary Welsh winger hung up his boots in January after leading his nation to the 2022 World Cup for the first time since 1958.

Wrexham recently made the headlines after winning the National League title to secure promotion to League Two.

Bale congratulated McElhenney for the achievement, which marked the end of Wrexham’s 15-year absence from the English Football League.

McElhenney reciprocated with a cheeky message, asking the former Real Madrid star to cancel his retirement and play for Wrexham for one last dance.

It doesn’t come as a surprise from Wrexham, who persuaded former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster to come out of retirement last month.

The English goalkeeper was instrumental in Wrexham’s success, with his penalty save against Notts County proving to be one of the decisive moments of the season.

Wrexham, also co-owned by Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, are now looking to follow suit with Bale, who won five Champions League titles during his time at Madrid.

After leaving the Santiago Bernabeu last summer, the 33-year-old moved to Los Angeles FC before announcing his retirement at the start of this year.
