It’s no secret that the Red Dragons are looking to strengthen their squad following promotion to the Championship, and Thomason has emerged as a target for Phil Parkinson’s side.

Despite interest from Huddersfield, it had been reported that Wrexham were ready to offer more than the Terriers for Thomason, as they prepared a £1.2m bid.

Steven Schumacher confirms George Thomason is set to leave Bolton Wanderers

And, in a fresh development, boss Schumacher told the Bolton News that they had accepted an offer for Thomason, who is now undergoing a medical before finalising the transfer.

Obviously, George isn't in the squad. We have accepted a bid from a club last week, and he's gone this weekend to do his medical there. I don't want to name clubs and all that because it's not confirmed yet. But that's why George wasn't here, obviously. We'll probably touch on that in a bit more detail next week.”

Even though Schumacher refused to name the club, the update confirms that it is Wrexham, and an announcement of the move is close.

George Thomason will add a lot to Wrexham’s midfield

This looks like a smart capture from Wrexham, as they have had a frustrating window so far, with the club unable to do the business they would’ve wanted by this stage.

However, it has been a productive few days as they look to rectify that, as Liberato Cacace has signed in a club-record deal from Empoli, and Thomason is now set to follow.

The Bolton man will bring bite and intensity to the middle of the park, and his arrival will be very welcome as the club nervously wait to discover the extent of Ollie Rathbone’s injury during their pre-season defeat to Sydney FC.

At 24, Thomason will feel he is ready for the step up to the Championship, and it continues a remarkable rise for the player, who was with non-league Longridge Town just five years ago.

So, he fits the profile of what Wrexham want, and whilst he will face a battle to get in the XI, he is another body in the squad for Parkinson, and he buys into what the club are all about with his style of play, which is sure to endear him to the supporters. Furthermore, he will bring leadership qualities to Parkinson's squad, with Thomason the club captain at Bolton.
