Wrexham are closing in on the signing of centre-back Conor Coady from Championship counterparts Leicester City.
A transfer fee - thought to be in the region of £2m - has been agreed for the 32-year-old England international, who successfully completed his medical on Friday morning.
Bringing in Coady would mark another significant show of ambition from Wrexham, as they gear up for their return to the second tier after a 43-year absence.
The club have already broken their transfer record twice during this window, first by landing Empoli left-back Liberato Cacace and then Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien.
That record could be eclipsed once more, with talks ongoing over a bold £7.5m bid for Wales and Ipswich Town attacker Nathan Broadhead.
Wrexham are also aiming to wrap up a deal for fellow Wales international Kieffer Moore, currently with Sheffield United.
Coady brings a wealth of top-flight experience, having made 198 Premier League appearances and captained Wolves during a period that saw them twice finish seventh and reach the Europa League quarter-finals.
He’s earned 10 England caps and was part of the national team’s squads at both Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
Coady has one year remaining on his current deal with Leicester.
