FLW discusses the latest injury news regarding Wrexham ahead of their League One clash with Stevenage this week.

Wrexham are on the hunt for Championship football.

Wrexham's rise has been well documented over the last few years, after Hollywood actors, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, took ownership of the club back in 2020.

Their tenure as owners has brought a huge amount of success to not only the club, but the town of Wrexham, as they have brought back a real harmony about the place.

The Red Dragons now find themselves in League One after achieving back-to-back promotions from the National League recently, and they are certainly making a good account of themselves despite the huge step-up in divisions.

Their start to the season under much-loved manager, Phil Parkinson, has been extraordinary as they find themselves second in the table, behind only Birmingham City, who seem to be making a beeline for the Premier League despite being two tiers below.

Wrexham have won five, drawn two and lost just one of their opening eight League One fixtures, and they will be looking to make it six league wins away to Stevenage this Tuesday (1st October).

That will be no easy task for Phil Parkinson's men, as The Lamex Stadium is an incredibly tough place to go for anyone in this division.

Wrexham will need to be at their best if they want to take all three points back to Wales this week, so with that in mind, let's look at the latest team news for the Red Dragons going into that tough fixture on the road.

Wrexham AFC injury news

On the weekend, the Welsh side were held to a very rare 0-0 draw at the hands of Leyton Orient in East London, and one of the main talking points following the full-time whistle was, unfortunately, an injury to one of Wrexham's key players.

Centre-back, Max Cleworth, who has started all eight of Wrexham's League One games and even chipped in with three goals, was substituted late into their game against Leyton Orient on Saturday and limped off, which was a worrying sight.

In Parkinson's post-match interview, he alluded to the fact that Cleworth would be spending some time on the sidelines.

"Max has damaged his ankle ligaments, the extent to which we don't know. It didn't look good, and we feel for Max. We hope it's not too long."

Aside from that, Parkinson pretty much has a full squad to select from, and there are a number of players who can confidently replace Cleworth while he recovers.

Wrexham will have a challenge on their hands

Wrexham have enjoyed a fine start to their League One campaign, but the same could have been said about both Barnsley and Charlton Athletic before they arrived at The Lamex Stadium over the last couple of weeks.

Stevenage have made their ground somewhat of a fortress over the last couple of seasons, and Barnsley and Charlton recently discovered that the hard way as they fell to 3-0 and 1-0 defeats respectively.

Alex Revell is the man at the helm for Boro, taking over from Steve Evans who earned promotion from League Two with the club in 2023. The identity at Stevenage has remained intact despite Evans' departure to Rotherham, as Revell has ensured that his side are incredibly difficult to beat, especially at home.

From their first eight league games, Boro have kept an impressive five clean sheets, thanks to their determination in defence, so Wrexham must come with plenty of ideas to break them down.

It will arguably be one of their toughest tests of the season so far, but they certainly have the players to get a result from it.
