FLW's Wrexham pundit wants to see a striker brought in before the conclusion of the winter window.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Wrexham AFC have been urged to move for a Premier League striker before the winter window deadline next week – with Liverpool's Jayden Danns named as a preferred target.
This month has been relatively quiet in terms of incomings and outgoings for Phil Parkinson, with the head coach making Ryan Longman his only addition from Hull City.
However, it has long been clear that he desires a striker, with Alan Nixon reporting this detail as early as mid-November. But with just one week remaining until the window slams shut, their desperation to sign a new frontman remains unfulfilled.
Sitting third in the League One table, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will know they need to show some desire if Wrexham are to make it three successive promotions.
To get a Red Dragons point of view on what would make a dream end to the January window, Football League World spoke to Liam Grice, who admitted that he would like to see a striker signed before February 3rd.
"The main thing for me, and a lot of Wrexham fans, is getting that striker in," Grice revealed.
"We saw against Birmingham City (1-1 draw), in one of our better performances in recent weeks, that we just lacked that clinical number nine up front who could really take advantage of the pressure we were putting on them. If we had the striker to do that, we would have gone on to win the game.
"It doesn't have to be permanent – on loan from a Premier League club. Maybe someone like Jayden Danns; I know he has been linked with Plymouth in the last couple of weeks, but he would be perfect, I think.
"It would give him some experience, and it gives us a bit of firepower. He has scored for Liverpool in cup competitions, so he has proven he can do it, and he would certainly add something to this team."
Taking a more in-depth look into the potential of Wrexham being able to sign Danns, it is clear that they would have to fight interest off from the tier above.
This month, FLW exclusively revealed that up to five Championship teams were keen, with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City among them.
The Red Dragons are not averse to fighting off larger clubs and have previously pulled off statement signings in the lower tiers with the likes of Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee joining.
Danns would be just that, and it would suit his development to head to the Racecourse with the likes of Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott there to learn from.
His youth record speaks for itself and, having scored three times in eight appearances for the senior team, Wrexham would be well-backed to sign the 19-year-old.
