Paul Mullin scored his 100th goal for Wrexham in their 2-1 win over Colchester United when he headed in from a Ryan Barnett cross in the 62nd minute. After two more strikes against Crawley Town, the striker has scored 21 League Two goals this season.

Mullin missed Wrexham's opening six League Two matches of the season after suffering a punctured lung in a 3-1 pre-season win over Manchester United after colliding with United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop. Despite this setback, he is the third-highest goalscorer in the division.

The Wrexham star was soon back to his goal-getting antics in North Wales after just his third start since returning from his pneumothorax injury when he scored twice in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Crewe Alexandra, and he has not looked back since.

Paul Mullin has posted impressive numbers since his return.

According to statistics from WhoScored.com he has scored 0.7 goals per 90 minutes played, above that of League Two top goal scorer and familiar Notts County rival Macaulay Langstaff.

Should Mullin continue at his current strike rate, he will finish the season with 23 goals.

This would be his most productive season in the fourth tier since the 2020/21 season, where he banged in a huge 32 goals to help Cambridge United win automatic promotion to League One after finishing the season as runners-up.

Born in Litherland, Merseyside, the 29-year-old is not only eligible to play international football for his birth country of England but, also for his grandmother's birth country Wales.

Mullin has flirted with international football before with both of his eligible nations.

He was selected for England C alongside teammates Ben Tozer and Aaron Hayden for their 2022 International Challenge match against Wales C, but did not play in the match.

Wales senior team manager Rob Page placed the lethal striker on his standby list for Wales' friendly against Gibraltar at Wrexham's home stadium, the Racecourse Ground, and the UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifier against Croatia.

Wales missed out on automatic qualification for Euro 2024, finishing behind Turkey and Croatia in Group D, but were handed a second chance via the playoffs.

The Red Dragons dismantled Finland 4-1 in the semi-final before unfortunately losing on penalties to Poland in the final, meaning that they will not appear in the finals in Germany in June.

Lack of cutting-edge in-front of goal ended up being Wales' downfall in the final.

Despite allowing no efforts on their goal, Wales were only able to put four shots on target in 120 minutes of football and scored no goals. During the qualifying group stage, Wales averaged only 1.25 goals per game.

Depth in forward positions is not an issue for Page, he boasts Premier League talents Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson among others in his ranks. However, the centre-forward position has long been an issue.

Ipswich Town's Kiwffer Moore has been Page's go-to frontman for much of recent times, however, the manager has sometimes even opted to forego a striker altogether, opting for a 'false nine' approach.

Wales's lack of goals and sparse forward cover paves the way for Paul Mullin to receive a call-up.

The 29-year-old is a proven goalscorer and could elevate the national team, and perhaps even help the Dragons qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
