Wrexham end their fairytale return to the Football League this weekend as they prepare for their first season in League One for 21 years next term.

The Red Dragons secured back-to-back promotions earlier this month in emphatic style, thumping Forest Green Rovers at the Stok Cae Ras to continue their upward trajectory under the ownership of Hollywood superstars, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Phil Parkinson's side welcome champions Stockport County to North Wales on the final day of the season, hoping to sign off with a victory in front of their home supporters.

Wrexham in the race for Notts County striker

It was reported by the Wrexham Insider that Phil Parkinson's side are keen to bolster their attacking options next season with the addition of Notts County striker, Macaulay Langstaff.

The Notts striker has continued his goal-scoring form that helped the Magpies return to the Football League along with the Red Dragons, with the same report also citing Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United with a move for the 28-year-old.

In January, it was also reported that a number of Championship and League One sides were interested in the striker's services, with Sunderland, Birmingham City and Derby County among some of the names linked with Langstaff.

The Notts number nine signed a new deal with the club in August last year, extending his stay at Meadow Lane until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, meaning a sizeable fee will be needed to prize him away from the East Midlands side.

It is claimed that should Langstaff complete a move to the Stok Cae Ras, it would cost Wrexham significantly more than their current record signing of £300,000 for Ollie Palmer from AFC Wimbledon in January 2022.

Wrexham welcome Stockport County to North Wales on the final day of the League Two season.

Dave Challinor's side were crowned as champions of the fourth tier following their win over Notts County at Meadow Lane earlier this month.

Parkinson's side have the opportunity to finish second in the standings should they overcome the Hatters on home turf and Mansfield Town fail to win away to Barrow this weekend.

And while automatic promotion has already been confirmed, defender Luke Bolton, who signed Salford City during the January transfer window, has insisted that his side will be fired up for the contest despite there not being anything to play for to ensure their campaign ends with a win.

"We want to win every game that we play," the 24-year-old told the Leader.

"Okay, we are promoted, but it doesn't mean that we down tools now, that's not the group we are and that's not the staff that we have either.

"We prepare for every game professionally, even now after getting promoted, and can't wait for the weekend."

Of all the crazy things that have happened at Wrexham in recent years, Ollie Palmer featured in a trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, was perhaps something nobody saw coming.

The club’s owner, Ryan Reynolds, is reprising his role as the comic book character when the film releases this July, the first edition in the series to release since the Hollywood actor took charge of the Welsh outfit in 2021.

But the most eagle-eyed of Wrexham supporters spotted their number nine feature at the start of the trailer in a scene involving Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine, inside a bar.

The 32-year-old has confirmed that he is in the major motion picture, albeit the size of the role of his character is unknown and it is likely to just be a cameo appearance in the background.

Taking to Instagram, Palmer wrote: “If you squint…” on the actor's post of the films trailer, and when Reynolds was asked by a fan whether the 32-year-old featured, he replied: "Keen eyesight."
